Steph Curry, the NBA’s 2022 MVP, crushes it on the basketball court, possibly changing the game forever. He has also changed the game of golf in numerous ways. In 2019, Curry partnered with Howard University to launch and financially support a Division 1 golf program for six years, the first in University history. The following year, he donated $25,000 to help Scott Harrington and his wife Jenn with her battle with Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Announced in April 2022, Steph Currys UNDERRATED Golf Tour tour has already had three showings. It will have two more in August at Innisbrook– Copperhead in Tampa, FL, and TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, CA. The direction and meaning of the tour are to give up-and-coming college-level golfers a more accessible avenue to achieve their golfing dreams. The UNDERRATED Golf Tour is an AJGA-accredited (American Junior Golf Association) tour that, as previously mentioned, holds five events over the summer of 2022.
The tour is free to play for players, including travel, lodging, and meals. All five events are part of the “Curry Cup,” the end-of-tour championship trophy.
The UNDERRATED Golf Tour is a welcome extension of Curry’s UNDERRATED brand that was established in 2019. The mission of UNDERRATED is to empower underrated and underrepresented individuals all over the world. The brand was naturally founded to focus on basketball. It is only natural that he expanded into the world of golf as the sport became more inclusive and welcoming.
“Less than 2% of golfers are people of color. Our Tour provides a platform of equity, access, and opportunity for girls and boys who want to play and compete with the current best players on the AJGA.” Curry said during the UNDERRATED Golf announcement.
“Everybody knows I love the game of golf, and I couldn’t be more excited to extend this love to the best young players around the country.”
