The Los Angeles Country Club’s North Course, nestled amidst picturesque landscapes, will make history as the host site for the 123rd U.S. Open from June 15-18. This momentous occasion marks the first time the world’s greatest golfers will compete on this legendary course, adding a new chapter to championship golf. The event holds tremendous significance for the Los Angeles area, showcasing the brilliance of the course and creating an unforgettable experience.
Established in 1897, the Los Angeles Country Club has a storied past. Led by Joseph Sartori and Edward Tufts, the club aimed to promote golf in Southern California. After settling near Beverly Hills, the club officially opened on May 30, 1911, with an 18-hole course designed by Sartori, Tufts, Macbeth, and Orr.
Recognizing the sport’s growing popularity, renowned golf architect W. Herbert Fowler added two new 18-hole courses to the club in 1921. Later, George C. Thomas Jr., a respected golf course architect and club member, redesigned the North Course in the late 1920s. This layout is considered one of his most exceptional designs. In 2010, Gil Hanse led a five-year restoration project on the North Course, preserving Thomas’ original 1928 layout while incorporating modern elements.

The club’s historic Clubhouse, designed by architect Sumner Hunt, underwent a significant renovation from March 2015 to August 2016, restoring its original grandeur. The reopening ceremony included the rededication of the Reagan Terrace, honoring former U.S. President Ronald Reagan, a member of the Los Angeles Country Club.
Additionally, the club’s South Course underwent a renovation, reopening in July 2016. Offering a distinct golfing experience, it complements the North Course’s allure.
