Tacos, Tequila, and Tee Times: The Los Cabos Golf Experience at Quivira

At this iconic Baja club, the 5th hole serves up Pacific Ocean drama, local flavor, and one of golf’s most unforgettable mid-round stops.

Quivira’s cliffside drama

On any given day, standing 275 feet above the crashing Pacific at Quivira Golf Club’s par-4 fifth hole is a reason to pause. But on Cinco de Mayo, that pause is enhanced by a cold Bloody Maria in hand and a fish taco that has no business being this good on a golf course.

Quivira, designed by Jack Nicklaus and located at the southern tip of the Baja Peninsula in Los Cabos, Mexico, has earned a spot among Golf Digest’s World’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses since its opening in 2014. This 7,085-yard layout scales sheer granite cliffs, winds through massive dunes, and ascends nearly 400 feet above sea level, offering unobstructed Pacific Ocean views from every hole. It is, quite simply, one of the most dramatic stretches of golf real estate in the world.

“The green hangs on the side of a cliff, 106 feet below the tee, and at the comfort station behind you, they’re pouring blanco, reposado, and añejo. Mexico doesn’t do anything halfway.”

What makes the Los Cabos golf experience especially reflective of Mexican culture, and especially fitting for Cinco de Mayo, is what happens between the holes. The course features four legendary on-course comfort stations. Near the 8th green, “The Oasis” boasts a full tequila bar stocked with blanco, reposado, and añejo varieties, accompanied by ceviche and grilled Baja shrimp. By any standard, it might be the world’s most scenic mid-round 19th hole.

Tequila and cliff-top golf

Back at the thatched-roof clubhouse, located between the 1st tee and the 18th green directly above the sandy Pacific shore, fish tacos and Quivira’s signature cocktails mark the end of every round. On Cinco de Mayo, this tradition takes on added cultural significance: a Jack Nicklaus masterpiece on Mexican soil, celebrating the craft, cuisine, and coastal spirit that make Los Cabos unique.

If there is a better place than this Los Cabos golf experience to raise a glass of tequila, with a driver in hand and the Pacific wind at your back, we have yet to find it.
