When Richland opened at Reynolds Lake Oconee in late 2024, it instantly elevated the community’s reputation as one of America’s premier golf destinations. The course marked Reynolds’ seventh 18-hole layout—and Tom Fazio’s second contribution to the property—blending nine redesigned holes from his National Bluff routing with nine all-new creations that tumble dramatically toward the lake.

Now, with summer’s long shadows stretching and autumn just weeks away, anticipation is building for Richland’s first fall season of play. Golfers know that great courses mature like fine wine, their character revealed more fully with time. Richland is no exception. After a year of settling into the land, its fescue roughs, native grasses, and tree-lined fairways are ready to frame what promises to be a breathtaking seasonal shift. The expectation is a course alive with reds, golds, and ochres mirrored on the waters of Lake Oconee—an experience both strategic and cinematic.
That cinematic quality has already earned Richland international acclaim. Photographer Bill Hornstein, whose lens has chronicled many of the world’s great courses, turned his focus to Richland earlier this year and was honored with three Gold Medals at the 2025 European Photography Awards. His work, recognized in the categories of Luxury, Advertising, and Environmental, positions Richland as more than just a golf course; it is a work of living art.
“For a photographer, it’s the kind of place where every angle tells a story,” Hornstein says. “Richland doesn’t just sit on the land, it’s a part of it. As the light changes, so does the course. Autumn will be spectacular here.”
Richland has already earned an Honorable Mention in Golf Inc.’s 2025 Development of the Year competition, praised for its routing, challenge, and architectural setting. But this fall will be its true coming-of-age moment. With Fazio’s undulating greens and bold bunkering framed against Georgia’s seasonal splendor, the course is poised to become not just a destination for golfers, but also one of the most photographed new designs in the country.
