A Toast to SirDavis: Beyoncé’s Bold Whisky Brand Turns One

More than a celebrity spirit, SirDavis is a cultural statement, blending American craftsmanship with a family legacy of resilience.

“I’ve always been drawn to the power and confidence I feel when drinking quality whisky and wanted to invite more people to experience that feeling,” says SirDavis Founder Beyoncé. “When I discovered that my great-grandfather had been a moonshine man, it felt like my love for whisky was fated. SirDavis is a way for me to pay homage to him, uniting us through a new shared legacy.”

When Beyoncé Knowles-Carter first unveiled SirDavis American Whisky in September 2024, the world expected something bold. Few, however, anticipated how seamlessly she would blend heritage, craftsmanship, and culture into one of the most acclaimed spirits in recent memory.

Launched on Beyoncé’s 43rd birthday, SirDavis was born from a partnership with Moët Hennessy, marking the luxury group’s first U.S.-developed whisky brand. The name honors Beyoncé’s great-grandfather, Davis Hogue, a Texas farmer and moonshiner during Prohibition who hid whisky bottles in hollow cedar trees for friends to find. Nearly a century later, his spirit is reimagined, this time on top shelves around the world.

Crafted under the guidance of master distiller Dr. Bill Lumsden, renowned for his work with Glenmorangie and Ardbeg, SirDavis offers a distinct flavor profile unlike anything in the American whisky category. Its 51% rye and 49% malted barley mash bill, finished in sherry casks, bridges the bold spice of rye with the smooth, fruit-laced sophistication of Japanese and Scotch influences. The result is a whisky that feels both classic and modern, rich with notes of clove, cinnamon, and dark fruit.

Before its official debut, the brand made waves on the competition circuit, earning Best in Class for American Whiskey at the 2023 SIP Awards, a Gold Medal (95 points) at the New York International Spirits Competition, and a 93-point rating from the Ultimate Spirits Challenge. These honors confirmed what Beyoncé and Moët Hennessy set out to achieve: a whisky that respects tradition while reshaping its future.

In September 2025, SirDavis celebrated its first year with the #Day4Icons campaign, a global toast to craftsmanship and community. Fans shared personal stories and milestones tied to the brand, culminating in a feature spotlighting one of SirDavis’s earliest customers. The campaign’s timing, on both Beyoncé’s and SirDavis’s shared birthday, reflected the deep personal connection between creator and creation.

From its sleek, ribbed bottle crowned with a bronze horse emblem symbolizing strength and Texas pride to its Houston-based production, the American whisky continues to bridge legacy and innovation while redefining what luxury spirits can represent.
