TaylorMade Kalea Gold: Designed with Women, for Women

Purpose-Built From Female Feedback, the Line Supports the Surge in Women’s Participation

As more women take to the fairways, ranges, and simulators across the country, equipment makers are being pushed to respond—not just with pink shafts or smaller grips, but with thoughtful, high-performing gear that reflects how and why women play the game today.

Kalea Gold by TaylorMade Golf is one such example. Introduced in 2024, the premium 10-piece set has continued to gain attention for doing something the industry has long overlooked: designing clubs for women based on real feedback from women.

The release came amid a cultural shift in golf that shows no signs of slowing down. According to the National Golf Foundation’s June 2025 report, women and girls are driving 60% of on-course growth since 2019, helping the number of female golfers in the U.S. reach a record 7.9 million. That figure surpasses the previous peak set in 2006 and signals a broader transformation of the sport.

“Once making up just 20% of traditional players, women now represent 28% of all golfers and account for a full third of total participation when off-course venues are included.”

Kalea Gold wasn’t just built with these numbers in mind. It was built with these players in mind.

Michelle Penney, TaylorMade’s Principal Engineer for Product Development, described the approach behind Kalea Gold as a fresh way of thinking about women’s golf club design.

Rather than retrofitting men’s clubs or guessing at what female players might prefer, TaylorMade conducted an extensive, months-long feedback loop. It included input from professional instructors, social players, in-house employees, and reviews from women who played the earlier Kalea Premier line. The result was not just a refined product but a clearer understanding of how women engage with their gear.

One of the most consistent points of feedback was aesthetic. Players were no longer interested in pastel tones or design tropes historically used to market to women. Instead, they wanted equipment that looked as polished and performance-driven as the gear seen on the men’s side. Kalea Gold responded with a sleek, modern palette of white, gold, grey, and navy. The visual departure has resonated with both seasoned golfers and those just entering the game.

Performance was also paramount. The clubs in the Kalea Gold line were engineered to be lightweight, forgiving, and optimized for launch, without sacrificing feel or control. While TaylorMade incorporated many of its well-known technologies, such as carbon face construction and speed-enhancing sole designs, the real innovation was in the process, not the parts.

And crucially, Kalea Gold wasn’t just designed for beginners. Many women adopting the line were upgrading from starter sets or inconsistent hand-me-downs, looking for gear that would help them compete more confidently, whether in league play, charity scrambles, or simply against their own personal best.

That reflects a broader truth about women’s golf today. Participation isn’t just growing, it’s evolving. More women are sticking with the game, seeking out instruction, joining private clubs, and buying better equipment. They’re shaping the future of golf, not following it.

While Kalea Gold retails at $1,899 for the full 10-piece set, including a golf bag, its continued relevance speaks to a bigger shift in the marketplace. Women’s golf equipment is no longer an afterthought or side project. It’s a category with dedicated research, elevated design, and real demand.

In a sport still shedding its reputation for exclusivity, the presence of products like Kalea Gold sends a message. Women belong here, and they deserve equipment that reflects it.

As brands across the industry reevaluate how they speak to the modern golfer, TaylorMade’s Kalea Gold offers a compelling example of what can happen when equipment is created with intention, collaboration, and respect for the players driving the game forward.
